Many patients with skin diseases are on immunosuppressive treatment and have questions regarding their skin disease and coronavirus disease (covid-19). Here we would like to inform you about some aspects related to these questions.
If you have psoriasis, eczema or another skin disease, you are not in a risk group for contracting coronavirus disease. You must follow the current recommendations from the authorities at all times and do not need to isolate yourself further than what is recommended.
Should you get coronavirus disease, you should know that the vast majority of people recover completely after a few days of flu-like illness. It is especially the elderly and patients with an underlying serious illness who can become seriously ill. As with all types of infection, your psoriasis can be worsened by the infection and then it is important that you know what to apply.
Immunosuppressive agents are used to reduce the inflammatory condition in e.g. psoriasis. Such drugs suppress our immune system - which means that you can become more susceptible to infections.
Patients using immunosuppressive drugs, whether it is Methotrexate, biological or other similar drugs, should not stop treatment. You must continue the medication as before. If you are on immunosuppressive medication and become ill, it is recommended to contact your GP for advice on various measures. Follow the GP office's routines in relation to how to contact them.
