Acne Treatment with Advanced Oral Medication

Severe acne is treated with a strong oral medication known as a retinoid, which is similar to vitamin A. This treatment is only started when other acne treatments have not provided sufficient results. The medication works by reducing cell division, sebum production, bacterial growth, and inflammation, addressing the key factors that contribute to acne. The treatment typically lasts 6–12 months, with 1–3 capsules taken daily.

Most patients notice an improvement after 4–6 weeks, with the full effect becoming evident around 8 weeks.

Regular blood tests are necessary during treatment to monitor liver function and cholesterol levels in the blood.
For women, strict contraception is required as the medication is harmful to the fetus and pregnancy must be avoided throughout the treatment period. Most side effects are mild, dose-dependent, and temporary, resolving after the treatment course is completed.
